This makes a lot of sense. The SlingBox has been around for a few years now, allowing people to route their TV through the Internet and share the video with friends, family or their own laptops. With the newly announced Mobile SlingPlayer for the iPhone, you’ll no longer have to jump on a computer to watch TV. The app can even remotely control home digital video recorders to pause, rewind or fast forward live television. Sling Media hasn’t set a price yet, and there’s no firm release date, but it’s set to launch sometime this quarter. [via DVICE]

Sling Media specializes in gadgets that let you watch your favorite shows no matter what room in the house you’re in or which airport you happen to be stuck in for the holidays. The Slingbox Pro lets you control four video sources from anywhere in the world on your laptop or cell phone. Your DVR, digital cable or satellite receiver and DVD player can all be remotely accessed. Use this in concert with SlingPlayer Mobile software (sold separately) and it connects you, your television shows and your Windows Mobile, Palm OS or Symbian cell phones and PDAs. Don’t forget, you’ve still got Xmas and New Year’s to deal with. Doing any traveling between now and then? Yeah, we thought so.
