lgmotorola LG Edges Out Motorola in Cell Phones Shipped

Nokia and Samsung are still king and queen of the cell phone game, but LG has reason to celebrate after shipping the third-most handsets worldwide in 2008. Sales reached 100 million for LG last year, barely beating Motorola’s 99.9 million sales and 96.6 million sales by Sony Ericsson. Motorola’s slip from the top three isn’t earth-shattering news, seeing how Motorola has undergone several layoffs and was blasted by an analyst for releasing a “half-baked mess” of products last year. As for LG, it’s got a ways to go before catching up to the top two. Nokia and Samsung sold 400 million and 200 million phones, respectively, last year. [DigiTimes via Engadget]

samsung Samsung announces ultra slim desktops

It seems like everything just keeps getting smaller. That mantra carries over to desktop computers with the announcement of Samsung Korea’s three new desktop PC’s. The DM-X100, DM-R100, and DN-Z100. The computers are all slim in design and carry the “MagicStation” product line name. The top end model in the group, the DM-X100 has a Core 2 Duo CPU (45nm BTO CPU), an NVidia GeForce 9 Series video card (BTO) with HDMI output and is only 5.6×20.1×26.34cm. Check out the model holding one in the photo above- this one looks like it’s even getting close to Mac Mini size! [via AkibaharaNews]

samsung 256gb ssd Samsungs 256GB SSDs Now Producing

A few days ago, Samsung announced that they’ve begun mass producing high-speed 256GB solid state drives (SSDs) for notebooks and PCs. Combining sequential read rates of 220MBps and sequential write rates of 200MBps, this isn’t just another 2.5-inch SSD on the market– its actually the fastest. This little beast is twice as fast as any other SSD of its size (Toshiba and Micron) and 10 times faster than any 7200 rpm laptop hard drive we’ve seen.  Too bad we don’t have a price yet, but considering that a 128GB SSD adds $500 to the total cost of your laptop, we can only imagine how exorbitantly expensive is going to sell for… [via Dvice]

First it was the Samsung Behold, then the Instinct, followed by the Delve, and now the Samsung Eternity. With all those touch phones released by Samsung in the last month it appears the company is investing its future in Pocket PC based technology, and the Eternity from what we can tell delivers on that investment.

The Samsung Eternity features a crisp 3.2 inch display that offers haptic feedback (Basically it vibrates at the point pushed on the screen to give the user the feel of realtime feedback). The Eternity also features Samsungs recently released TouchWiz interface and offers an accelerometer as an added bonus.

Throw in a 3 Megapixel camera, GPS capabilities and Bluetooth and its easy to see how this device lets users stay connected using a variety of options. Connectivity also couldn’t be any easier thanks to the devices full HTML browser and 3G high speed data connection with Edge/GPRS thrown in for good measure.

Finally the unit comes equipped with AT&T Mobile TV and Video Share, offers Email capabilities, and ships with an expandable and much appreciated microSD card slot.  If the above info has you jonesing you can pick one up today at AT&T Wirelss for $149.99 wtih a two-year contract.
