Ever since the 2nd grade, when I stared enviously across the reading group table at the kid with the calculator watch, I’ve had a thing for cool watches. Sometimes it’s pure style, and sometimes it’s bonus functions, but cool new watches always catch the eye. LG really upped the ante on what you can expect from wrist-wrapping gadgetry with its GD910, the world’s first 3G HSDPA wrist phone. This watch phone not only makes calls at the flick of your wrist, but they’re video calls to boot. The watch features a 1.43” LCD touch screen, Text-to-Speech function and MP3 player. Tell me this doesn’t look like the device to discuss classified matters of imminent world consequence. Luckily, no word of a self destruct function. When I get this, the kid with the calculator watch can eat it big time. For the time, however, it looks like it will be available only in Korean and European markets. [ubergizmo]

While other companies were steadily dropping Blu-ray home theater systems throughout 2008, LG was biding its time. It looks to have paid off, as their LHB979 appears to be very well thought out. The 5.1 system includes sleek and slim tower fronts, smaller rears, built-in iPod dock and 2 separate HDMI inputs. For those that value aesthetics over audio (or whose spouses insist), the rear speakers have wireless capability for seamless connection. You’ll also get support for streaming from Netflix, CinemaNow and YouTube. LG boasts that the audio has been finely-tuned by audio guru Mark Levinson, so expect a sound that exceeds the standard electronics-giant package system. Expect to see the system at your local retailer by May. Prices not yet available. [Cnet]

Forget DVDs, set-top boxes and Xbox 360s. LG and Netflix announced today that they’re working on a television with built-in streaming video capabilities. The so-called “Broadband HDTV” will operate in similar fashion to the (pictured) hybrid Blu-Ray player/streamer that the two companies currently offer, but without the added clutter (and the Blu-Ray, of course). One downside is Netflix’s still-archaic “Instant Queue,” which requires you to first select your movies from a computer instead of directly choosing them on your TV. That, and the online offerings still don’t compare to Netflix’s massive mail-order catalog. But hey, it’s a step in the right direction. Maybe an “Xbox HDTV” is next. [Ars Technica]

LG plans on revolutionizing adaptive backlight displays. They’ve been working on a new LCD technology that involves transmissive and reflective illumination. Dubbed Backlight Data Signal Switching, the screen will offer optimum visibility no matter if you’re inside or outside in natural light, should consume 75-percent less energy than traditional displays and promises to prolong notebook life. Rumors have it that we’ll be seeing the new displays, live in 14.1-inch laptops, by the time CES 2009 kicks in, in January. [via SlipperyBrick]

While I’m not sold on LG‘s liberal use of the word “floating” (make it levitate and we’ll talk), the unconventional look of this DVD player, and the wall-mounting capabilities that lend its nickname, are at least easier on the eyes than your standard disc box. The DVS450H uses HDMI to upscale standard-definition DVDs to 1080p, and can play DIVx files using an attached USB hard drive. For $240, it does not play Blu-Ray. We already knew that LG is preparing to release Prada II– and that under the hood you’d find HSDPA, WiFi, a 5-megapixel camera and a smart 3-inch multi-touch display. But the thing we weren’t aware of was the matching Prada Link Bluetooth watch that might come along that not only tells time, but also promises to synchronize with the phone via Blueooth and show your incoming calls or your text messages. Doesn’t sound like a bad idea for when you’re driving, and it looks pretty fashionable. Too bad we don’t have a release date or a price, yet… [via UnwiredView]

Smart phone lovers just found a new crush. The slim, beautiful Incite from LG is the latest sexy devil to strut its stuff down the catwalk. LG breaks into the US smartphone market with all those features you drool over: WiFi, GPS, 3.0MP camera with camcorder and Bluetooth 2.0. Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional will fuel the fire while AT&T provides the network and access to AT&T 3G services including AT&T Mobile Music and AT&T Video Share. A 3-inch touch screen with landscaped QWERTY or 20-key portrait keyboards provide navigation around all those crucial apps. A microSD card holds up to 16 gigs. The Incite is available both online and in stores and will run $199.99 (2-year agreement). [at&t via cnet]

LG is showing off a few new desktops in Asia, namely the R20 and S20. The R20 will have a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor, GeForce 9500GS GPU, and 3GB of memory we well as a cooling system that is “based on Multi Direction Platform Cooling, which also makes it run fairly quietly.” The S20 has Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz processor and a GeForce 9600GT GPU. No word on a US release date or pricing… [via Engadget]

What’s the best part of the new LG XNOTE P310 laptop that debuted today? It comes with your choice of the two models above. Its a toss-up, in our opinion, but we’re leaning toward lovely on the right. Back to the gear, the XNOTE P310 is a 13.3″ notebook packs a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB of memory, 350GB of storage and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics. Pricing and release date details have not yet solidified, but it had better not climb toward the $2k of its earlier version, unless it includes one of the young ladies above. Otherwise, its a very, very hardsell with the quad core laptops that have hit the market of late… [via engadget]
