cardcounter Casinos Watching For iPhone Card Counting App

If the movie “21” is to be believed, counting cards in Vegas is a good way to get a beat down. In real life, it’s fair to say that you’ll probably get thrown out, and now regulators are keeping an eye out for an iPhone card counting app after a California Indian casino discovered it. Judging from the picture above, it seems there is more than one of these apps, because the one described has advanced features like a “stealth mode” and four seperate strategies. Still, I imagine that brandishing any digital cheat sheet at the casino will result in the heave-ho.  [via Ars Technica]

Mugshot of the Next iPhone?

iphone1 Mugshot of the Next iPhone?

No promises, but these photos are supposed snapshots of the next generation iPhone that have been circulating around the web. IPodObserver and MacObserver both posted leaked shots of a 16 GB iPhone in the making. While not exactly glam shots, the pics do give a glimpse of what we can potentially expect from a 3rd generation iPhone. All those enamored by the smooth, shiny look and feel of the iPhone 3G may be disappointed by the matte black finish. Then again, it’s still just rumors and conjecture. But hey, iPodObserver’s been right in the past. [Wired]

More Fun With iPhone Fan Concepts

iphoneconcept More Fun With iPhone Fan Concepts

The world of dreamed-up iPhone concepts is kind of like the Nexus from Star Trek, trapping the Photoshop-savvy in a communications fantasy world where anything is possible. This one’s got video conferencing, which would actually be pretty awesome. Sadly, there aren’t any other wild specs to go with the concept. It’s just a couple of graphics with appropriately Apple-looking ad copy. But CrunchGear’s not happy with the text, claiming that Apple would never say “multi-way” or suggest conferencing “to” something. They’re right. Our verdict: Not as cool as the last concept. Unlock your iPhone in less than 5 minutes

iphone Unlock your iPhone in less than 5 minutes

If you want to own an iPhone, but don’t want to switch your cell phone service over to AT&T you may have another option. iPhoneUnlocking.com claims to have created iPhone unlocking software for the 3G iPhone that unlocks the firmware up to the current version 2.2. Supposedly the software can unlock your phone in less than 5 minutes, and then the phone will be able to take any GSM smartcard from any cellphone carrier. The catch is the updates to the software aren’t free- so if you buy the service you’ll have to keep buying it if you want to update your iPhone’s firmware. Unlocking your phone also voids you warranty from Apple, so if you have any problems with the phone afterwards you won’t have the option of taking it back to the store. [via i4u]

Fantasy iPhone Stores 32 GB, Has Removable Battery

newiphonespecs Fantasy iPhone Stores 32 GB, Has Removable Battery

Aside from Macy Gray in the playlist, this concept iPhone has everything you could ever want in a mobile device. Measuring 9 mm thin and weighing just 4.4 ounces, the “speculative design” by Jim Young is constructed of titanium and glass. And it seems black is out, replaced by the more industrial shade of gray. The fantasy phone includes a front camera for iChat, true GPS and an OLED screen, but the real treats are the removable battery and enough storage space to finally make your old iPod irrelevant. What, no 3D graphics card and built-in laser beam? [via Gizmodo]

Apple, Adobe Working Together On iPhone Flash

apple iphone Apple, Adobe Working Together On iPhone Flash

File this under “Thank Heavens, It’s About Time.” Adobe is working to deliver a version of Flash for iPhones. Apple has said the standard version of Flash is too heavy on resources, while Flash Lite isn’t powerful enough to give consumers what they actually want, a position that Engadget perfectly equates to Goldilocks. Steve Jobs has asked Adobe to create a just-right version, though it’s not clear if it will support video sites like Hulu or game sites like AddictingGames. It’s still too early to get your hopes up in any case; Adobe Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narayen calls the development “a hard technical challenge,” so expect the company’s crack team of software engineers to be working for a while. Instant iPhone Photo Processing with CameraBag

Nevercenter has a solution for those times when your iPhone/iPod Touch photography skills are lacking: Mask the picture with some neat filters to make you look like a veteran photog. Simply pull up the picture in the CameraBag App,  swipe in the desired effects and save the result. There are seven filters in all, such as “Cinema,” which creates film-like widescreen stills and “Mono,” which smoothly grades the photo from black to white. An options menu allows for further tweaking. It only costs $1 — a small price for redeeming even your worst shots. [Nevercenter]
