HTC has had a meteoric rise in the smartphone world over the last few years, easily outpacing almost everyone on the market with their Droid and Windows Mobile phones, and achieving the impossible, like reviving Sprint as an actual player in the mobile market. And one of the favorites has been the Incredible, with phones like the Incredible S.

But you know what the Incredible was really missing? A big, scary, red Eye of Sauron on the home screen. A phone just isn’t a phone if you’re not feeling like a hobbit being chased by Ringwraiths every time you take your phone out to call the pizza place or something.

HTC Reveals Bold-esque Smartphone

snapandbold1 HTC Reveals Bold esque Smartphone

So HTC‘s latest smartphone looks a bit like the Blackberry Bold, but that’s okay; RIM’s probably flattered by having some competition that isn’t copying the iPhone (although, HTC’s kind of done that as well). For specs, you’ve got the Windows Mobile OS running on a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor. There’s 192 MB of RAM — a bit better than the Bold’s 128 MB, at least — a 2.4-inch screen, a 2-megapixel camera, 3G HSPA and all the usual stuff, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a QWERTY keyboard. Asking price? Fat chance, they never talk about this stuff during reveals. It’ll be available in the second quarter, but here’s something nice: An unlocked version, dubbed the HTCS522, will arrive for U.S. consumers in the summer.

Make sure you take a look at the BlackBerry free apps that are available to download on the market place. There are many new free apps to keep you entertained on your new RIM device.

It plays audio and video in a variety of formats and runs on Qualcomm’s MSM7200A processor. The Touch Pro2 uses the same CPU and connectivity standards as the Touch Diamond2 but adds a full keyboard. htctc2 HTC Touch Cruise Knows Where Youve Been, Tells You Where to Go

First and foremost, the Touch Cruise is a mobile phone, but HTC is promoting it as something much greater, something that helps you “remember every step of every journey.” What they’re saying is the Touch Cruise has built-in GPS that not only navigates, it automatically geotags your pictures and helps you find those places again in the future. You can also add notes and audio clips to aide the memory. The phone has a 3.2-megapixel camera and 2.8-inch QVGA touch screen and runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. An unlocked version will ship this spring for $500 to $600. [HTC and CNet]

While Sprint Wireless has preached their new WiMax networks for more than a year, its actually HTC that’s making the biggest splash of recent WiMax memory.  The HTC Max 4G was announced today, and surprisingly the device doesn’t offer Sprint based CDMA calling, but rather the more worldwide friendly GSM offering.

The Max 4G features an impressive hardware set that not only includes GSM calling and WiMax data, but also includes an impressive screen resolution coming in at 800 x 480 pixels. The unit also offers a Built-In GPS receiver, 8GB of on-board flash memory, and two distinct cameras, a front side video conferencing camera, along with a secondary backside camera for picture taking.

The Max 4G also comes equipped with WiFi, which is great for non-WiMax friendly areas. If you don’t have a WiMax network connection or WiFi available however don’t fear, users can also surf the web and download data via the units tri-band Edge network capabilities.

We should also mention that the device is rounded out with a fairly standard FM Radio offering.  Sure there’s no release date, and the full GSM/WiMax combo is really only accesible in tandem in Russia at this point, but its still enough to make us salivate, or beg for more info at the very least.  [via Engadget]
