Its a big release day in Hollywood– the champion of the 2008 Academy Awards has hit the virtual store shelves. “No Country for Old Men”, a four time Oscar Winner, is available to the public today. This film is a must-see, whether you saw it in theaters or not. “Country” wasn’t alone on this Super Tuesday, as the Blu Ray format saw many popular releases, and films like “Hitman” and “Dan in Real Life” became available to consumer media. Martin Sheen narrates Who Killed The Electric Car? It’s a fascinating documentary on the EV1 electric car, which was turned loose on the market by GM, then somehow scooped back up by the same company with most (all?) models ultimately destroyed. Some believe this film is an argument for the notion that people can be sold ANYTHING, and while you may disagree, the evidence certainly is compelling. With respect to the majority of society, America just won’t sit up and pay attention, even at $4.23 a gallon. This movie is proof.

There are few major studio releases this week, which can be seen as a good or a bad thing, depending on your tastes. We thought this would be a good excuse to pick DVDs that may get otherwise over looked. Two strong entries from the BBC, with Ricky Gervais in Extras Series Finale and rock your face fantastic State of Play, which is currently being remade into a movie with Russell Crowe. Anthony Hopkins Slipstream is an amazingly strange movie, and Criterion always reliable bring us The Last Emperor. Here is a list of all movie choices of the week.

Ricky Gervais, the genius behind The Office, followed up that triumph with the equally funny Extras, the tale of a wanna-be actor and his battle to get something better than a “blink-and-you-missed-me” role. There are plenty of star appearances, including Kate Winslet, David Bowie, Samuel L. Jackson, and Patrick Stewart to name a few. The collection includes the 90-minute series finale which hasn’t been available on DVD until now. If you loved The Office, this is right up your alley with the same kind of uncomfortable, “watch them self destruct in painfully obvious ways” humor. Brilliant.
