Even though most of us gadget lovers are thankful to have a true open source phone (G1), most of us can agree– it could have been given a more progressive design. Enter Lenovo and the OPhone– we couldn’t have thought of a better name. O as in, well, show us your “o” face.  The OPhone features a 5-megapixel camera (with Auto Focus and flash), a microSD card slot, English/Chinese input via virtual keyboard, a video recorder and Bluetooth 2.0. Not too shabby is you ask us. The drawback? You most likely won’t be able to get your hands on one of these, the OPhone is only available in China…  [via engadget]

By now, T-Mobile’s G1 and Kogan’s Agora were among the only mobile phones to use the Android OS. However, things are about to change because Google just released the unlocked version of the Android Dev phone making it available for users on other networks, too. It features a three-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi and quad-band GSM with EDGE for data, but for the time being its 3G capabilities outside T-Mobile are not yet known. The unlocked version of the phone comes in at $399 apart from initial registration of $25 as a Google Android developer. The handset will be available in 18 countries and will not carry all the support there is for the G1. [via electronista

g2 Sciphone to sell Android powered Dream G2

Word on the street is that China’s Sciphone is going to start selling the Android-powered Dream G2 handset in the coming weeks. The handset is rumored to sport Android Home edition V1.0, Google Maps, 16GB of flash memory, Gmail and YouTube applications and will not have an actual keyboard (which means we’re probably in store for some touch screen goodness). China prices are reported to be less than $200 for the device, no word on when (or if for that matter) we’ll see this one hit the US. [via SlipperyBrick]

Up until now, Google’s open-source Android OS was only available on T-Mobile’s G1– but fortunately this is about to change.  Australian mobile developer Kogan has stepped in to offer their own Android-enabled smart phone. Dubbed Agora, it features a 2.5-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G and a comfortable QWERTY keypad. Easy to handle and visually elegant, Agora will be available unlocked for $300 (including international shipping) by the end of January in 2009. Kogan is accepting preorders at the moment if interested. [via Dvice]

After much anticipation, Google’s Android mobile operating system finally has its face– the T-Mobile G1.  Coming October 13th, T-Mobile will be selling the self-branded HTC Dream loaded with the Android OS.  The G1 is a flip-style touch-screen phone with a full QWERTY keypad, with plenty of functionality that is going to give the iPhone a run for its money.  First, the G1 includes a 3MP camera, a slight upgrade over the sensor in the iPhone.  Like the iPhone App Store, there will be an Android Market for applications both direct and third party.  Instead of iTunes, Android will interface with Amazon’s MP3 store (which always seems to have a leg up on iTunes for DRM-free tunes).  The best part?  T-Mobile will be pricing the G1 at $179, with data plans starting at $25 per month… [t-mobile]
