Like many other young lads of my generation, I used to dream of owning a brilliant red hovercraft when I was a kid. Oh what fun I imagined I would have sailing across the world on that thin little sheet of air, laughing at all those who had wronged me. You can imagine my sheer delight (and ensuing disappointment) when I came across the Hoverit Lounger. While I still light up at the very mention of new hovering technology, this thing looks more like a new form of interrogation–just glancing at it makes my unmentionables hurt. It won’t even take you outside of the backyard, either—a real sad day in the world of hover devices. However, one can’t deny a little intrigue and desire to give it a quick sit. The acrylic chair uses magnetic repulsion to hold you in a state of suspended bliss (or pain, as it looks). For a limited time only 5,875 GBP (roughly $8475)!? [BoingBoing Gadgets]

Scientists at Duke University are reportedly one step closer to creating the invisibility cloak we’ve all been dreaming of. David R. Smith, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Duke says “The new device can cloak a much wider spectrum of waves–nearly limitless–and will scale far more easily to infrared and visible light. The approach we used should help us expand and improve our abilities to cloak different types of waves.” The current cloak prototype measures 20-inches by 4-inches and is less than an inch high. Scientist say it took nine days to take the device from conception to fabrication, a huge improvement in speed from the four months it took to create the original device. [via CNET]

While going through one of the biggest financial crises ever, we’ve learned a valuable lesson, that money should be spent a bit more wisely. For that reason, designer Eun-Gyeong Gwon developed Supervision, the personal financial assistant that features a touchscreen display and a stylus to make it easy to use. The little electronic gadget scans receipts, shows monthly expenses and comes up with detailed charts that allows you to balance your finances more wisely. It may not be the most practical solution, but at least it will make you think twice when spending all your hard-earned ricotta. [via Yanko]

You may remember that sweet Apple Tribook we showed you last week. While that laptop was just a concept, this ThinkPad by IBM is actually a reality. The IBM ThinkPad W700 has one main 17-inch screen AND an additional foldable 10.6-inch secondary display. In addition to the pretty awesome screen set-up the laptop has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA Quadro Express graphics, 4GB of DIMM memory, integrated color calibration, and integrated camera, Dual Link DVI, and dual RAID HDD high-speed storage with a 250GB max.

While face shifting might be something from Total Recall, people changing their appearance to cause harm is nothing out of a science fiction movie. A German security firm is creating a 3D face-recognition tech that checks people for even the smallest change in the way a person looks. You have a mole, birthmark or otherwise– no dice my friend, your plan will be foiled. Once the facial details are recorded, the biometric information will be placed onto a chip card to be placed in their OLED-based passports which will be heat-resistant, extremely thin and will presumably include movies of 3D biometric info, along with other visual cues. Yes it sounds complicated, and to a certain extent expensive, but considering the potential of the product, it’s two drawbacks that aren’t too much of a hindrance. [via wired]

When it comes to concepts, we prefer those that have a base in production reality. We want to celebrate something that’ll end up on the market and possibly in our hands one day. This one may never make it, but oooooh is it shiny! The Digit MP3 Player Concept is a sleek, stylish little media handheld with wireless Bluetooth earbuds. If it hits production, it’ll shine in three background colors– white, red and green… perfect for the holidays. In 2010. [via geeky-gadgets]

Designed by Mac Funamizu and dubbed Glassy Glassy, these amazing cool and ultra-gorgeous mobile phones are the guy’s vision of how cellphones will look in the near future. Made completely of transparent glass, sleek and with a seductive design, they’ll definitely keep you busy with washing hands and wiping off those annoying fingerprints. Also, to make it in our pockets or purses, they should also feature some sort of protective case to prevent scratching. Though we don’t see the future like this, one can still dream about it, right? Just because you have trouble seeing doesn’t mean you should have trouble with the touch interface of the iPhone. Bruno Fosi has designed a silicon iPhone case that merges with an app to allow iPhone accessibility to the are visually impaired. According to the product description “Multi-touch and finger flick scrolling are all intact.†We think this ought to be pretty interesting when you can’t see the screen. The design is just a concept now, no word on when or if we could ever see (or feel) the case in production. [via yanko]

With a show of hands, how many of you have ever wanted to punch your alarm clock? I can’t actually see the hands but I am almost sure it’s many– if not all of you. We love the fact that Santiago Cantera’s Escape Alarm Clock is modeled after an escape key, hence the escape clock name, and this clock’s function is simple in premise and execution. Want to turn it off? Rocky Balboa the damn thing. Want to listen to the radio? Set it on it’s side. Unfortunately, this alarm clock is only a concept, but we hope that won’t be the case for much longer… [via santiagocantera]
