iphone light writer 1 Say it Loud and Clear with Light Writer iPhone App

Ever feel like you’re not being heard? Perhaps it’s not what you’re saying, but how you’re saying it. Maybe, just maybe, if you were writing it across the night air in front of you with pretty, bright blue lights, people would listen. In fact, we’re pretty sure they would. And it will only cost you a dollar to test out the theory. The new Light Writer – POV Effect app by Laan Labs allows you to use your iPhone to create the illusion of floating words. Type in your message or choose a piece of clip art and wave it in the air like you just don’t care. Just remember, like with speaking, sometimes it’s better to think it than say it–don’t get an ass kicking or disorderly persons in the name of an app. [Gizmodo]

“Scope Node” Mouse Looks Cool, But How Does It Feel?

scopenode3 Scope Node Mouse Looks Cool, But How Does It Feel?

Maybe this is a stereotype coming through, but Japanese electronics maker Elecom’s “Scope Node” mouse kind of reminds me of a battle mech, with its disjointed parts and partially-exposed insides. The futuristic name helps. In any case, the Scope Node, also called “BOTANREZAMAUSU,” is supposedly like “holding a pen,” and that’s what worries me. See, I don’t particularly like holding pens. It’s certainly not what I look for in a mouse, because proper ergonomics should feel like holding nothing. At least the pen-like traits give the ‘Node excellent precision, and no driver installation required! The cost translates to roughly $65, and it’s available now. Good luck getting one outside of Japan. [Elecom (translated) via CrunchGear]

Get the Big Picture with Intel’s Multi-Client Display Linking

multi display Get the Big Picture with Intels Multi Client Display Linking

MIDs are undeniably convenient connectivity solutions that are irreplaceable for those who use them. However, the tiny screen can be a real annoyance, particularly if you want to view or read something of any size. Sit back and worry no longer; as part of its “Carry Small, Live Large” initiative, Intel is working on new technology that will allow several MIDs to link together to create one large screen. So if you and your buddies need to view a big map of where you’re going or some video footage of where you were, you’ll be able to do it without squinting. Why anybody thought that an ‘N Sync reunion was a good way of covering this exciting new technology is something we’ll be trying to figure out for a while. That’s one instance where you might prefer the small picture–or none at all. [Intel via Engadget]

LaCie iamakey Flash Drive Conceals Nerdiness

lacie iamakey 1 LaCie iamakey Flash Drive Conceals Nerdiness

A couple of Web sites are buzzing about the new iamakey flash drive from LaCie, and why shouldn’t they? The key-shaped dongle is a long-overdue idea, and a way better solution than the ring holes stamped into your typical bulky flash drives. Available in 4GB or 8GB models, the iamakey is made of stamped metal and survived CrunchGear’s road tests with no problems. It’s a little slower than an average drive, but not enough to outweigh the appeal of a simple, small drive that fits nicely on a keychain. If you’re worried about the thin construction, LaCie also makes itsakey, which sports a slighty thicker build and a covered USB connector. The iamakey costs $10 and should be available soon. thanko 1 Thankos new pen reads 4 SD cards simultaneously

Thanko has released a new four-slot USB SD card reader. While we can’t think of a time where you would actually need to read four different SD cards at the same time, it’s still an interesting concept. The SD$PEN can read four SD or SDHC cards (up to 16GB) as well as let you write out all your thoughts and dreams, or your grocery list for that matter. No word yet on pricing or a release dates for this one, but we’re sure it’s going to happen soon. Who could live without one of these? [via Akibahara]

New Multi-Function Knife Design

wrenchmultitool2 New Multi Function Knife Design

As cool and useful as a good multi-tool is, there’s really not too much new design or creativity going on in the market. You have your Swiss Army Knife and you have your Leatherman. Sure there may be a new gadget or two that you’ll never need to use in real life slipped into the fold, maybe a more ergonomic grip, but the options remain largely the same. Here’s a pretty cool multi-tool design that trades in the pliers for an adjustable wrench. You also get a full set of hexes and a blade. While this tool doesn’t exactly scream “my own personal McGuyver”, it is nice to see a diversion from the standard templates. Design by Ionut Predescu. [Ionut Predescu via Industrial Design Served]

Like a lot of similar music players the device has a USB 2.0 port so you can connect up other devices and has a clock radio with alarm if you want to rock it bedside. The player is currently available in Europe only with a price tag right around $1000 US, which puts it well out of the price range of most of us. [via SlipperyBrick]

Memory card readers are starting look a lot cooler these days. Sandisk has announced two pretty stunning looking new card readers. The ImageMate All-in-one and ImageMate Multi-card are both designed to read a pretty substantial amount of different types of memory while looking pretty badass. The ImageMate All-in-one reader has card-to-card copying functionality and supports SD, SDHC, miniSDHC, MMC, MS, MSPD, xD and CF. The Multi-Card reader on the other hand only reads xD, MS, SD, SDHC and MMC. Both are available now for $30 or $20 respectively and  are sleek enough we’d keep them on display on our desktop any day.
