Beyond being the greatest Olympian of all time, there’s a lot you may not know about Michael Phelps.  If you’d like to learn more about this 8 time gold medal winner, a handy website has been set up collecting facts about his life.  MichaelPhelpsFacts.com is an information resource for all new and future fans of Michael Phelps.  Here are a few of the facts that we thought were most interesting:

  • Water drinks Michael Phelps.
  • Aquaman wears Michael Phelps underwear.
  • When Michael Phelps jumps into the pool, he isn’t making a splash; the water is just trying to get out of his way.
  • When Michael Phelps swims with sharks it is the sharks that wear protective gear.
  • If you Google “Who can challenge Michael Phelps” there will be negative results.
  • Originally Steven Spielberg wanted Michael Phelps to play Jaws.  Unfortunately they didn’t have a fast enough camera.
  • Salmon learned to swim upstream from Michael Phelps.
  • Michael Phelps can turn a grape into a raisin just by looking at it.
  • Michael Phelps once did a cannon ball.  Atlantis was never seen again.
  • Michael Phelps found Nemo.

There’s a lot more, GearCravers.  Head over to MichaelPhelpsFacts.com.

FluidApp: simplify your web browser

picture 2 FluidApp: simplify your web browser

Web apps are becoming more and more prevalent, slowly taking over from traditional desktop based programs. There are some obvious benefits to this but one big downside is continually having 20+ tabs open.  FluidApp attempts to solve that problem by allowing you to create SSBs or site specific browsers.

Fluid gives any WebApp a home on your Mac OS X desktop complete with Dock icon, standard menu bar, logical separation from your other web browsing activity, and many, many other goodies.

Beyond the ability to create an single app for your webmail, YouTube, GTalk, Flickr, Twitter etc, Fluid also has some cool eye candy add on’s, I am not sure how useful it would be after extended use but reading digg with a coverflow preview for each of the outbound links sure does look cool.

thursday my gallons com msp 07032008 Thursday Website Pick: MyGallons.com

UPDATE – Hold off on this one, GearCravers…  a few GearCrave readers have pointed out news that MyGallons.com lost its contract to provide its gas cards from US Bank.  In other words, if you pay ‘em, you’re not getting what you paid for… yet.  We’ll keep you up to date.  Its unfortunate, because this really is a cool concept.

You know the proverbial shit has hit the fan when entrepreneurs begin selling gasoline futures to consumers on a micro level. To the economically uninitiated, allow us to translate: this company is allowing you to buy tomorrow’s gasoline at today’s price. When gas hits $5.00 this fall (and trust us, it will), you’ll have already purchased that gas at $4.00 today, even though its not in your tank yet. MyGallons.com provides its members with a pre-paid gas card where members can buy gas at a set price and pay for it in the future at that same price. Let’s use an example– say gasoline drops to $3.50 per gallon. I deposit $500 into my MyGallons account for X number of gallons of gas at $3.50 per gallon. In six months, when gas is $5.50 per gallon, I’m still paying $3.50/gallon out of that deposit… Point being, MyGallons saves you money on gas, big money considering how steep oil prices are expected to climb… Learn more at MyGallons.com.

Turn of your iPod, push it to the side, and prepare your ears for something truly new. You deserve a break from your oh-too-familiar music library. Just over a year ago, we found ParisDjs.com by chance. We were on the hunt for something fresh and new, and ended up bumping into ParisDjs, and since then we’ve listened to these mixes more times than we can count. ParisDjs.com is a DJ mix podcast website featuring mixes by a large selection of DJs across the globe. You won’t find annoying, cheesy dance music on ParisDJs, only soul, funk, reggae, rare groove, classic hip hop and more.

When we first came to ParisDJs, we found hip hop originator Steinski’s “A Rough Mix” mix-album, which is our personal favorite yet in their collection. That is as good a starting point as any. Check out the ParisDJs post on that, and here’s a direct link to the mp3. (Wait until the 2:37 mark, now that’s some good old hip hop nostalgia…)

This Week’s Best Video: “C’était un rendez-vous”

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/M3RUtJhhxPg" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

Having grown up in the Detroit area, I came from a car family. My Father was an auto designer, his brother was an auto designer, my cousins were designers, and if my other family members didn’t work in design, they still worked for one of the big three. Growing up in an environment where cars were a way of life, I was privy to some very cool things which led to develop my own interest in automobiles and design at the same time. One of them is the video you’ve seen above. At three years of age, I remember watching this film on videocassette with family, over and over, sharing the excitement of a city-wide cannonball. If Steve McQueen is the King of Cool, filmmaker Claude Lelouch is the Emporer of Ice. His film “C’était un rendez-vous” not only got him arrested after its first publication, it later forced him to betray the identity of the mystery driver in the film, whom Lelouch protected as a “professional Formula 1 racer”. Turns out, it was Lelouch himself who drove through the streets of Paris with a reckless abandon. What makes this video even more complete– is to find out what he’s in such a hurry for at the end… Enjoy the video, GearCravers, as I have enjoyed it for more than 25 years.

Update- More info on this film can be found on Wikipedia, yet as I point out in the comments I highly doubt the audio for this film was overdubbed… Feel free to suggest otherwise, I could be wrong!

What is TheBachelorGuy?

A website. (How often do you get that wiseass answer from guys thinking they’re funny? Really? Just me?)

TheBachleorGuy.com is a blog that has become the go-to resource for everyday guys who want to improve their lifestyle – and elevate themselves above Neanderthal status – with access to the latest info on gear, gadgets, grooming, style, food, drink, cars and anything else that’ll distinguish them from the rest of the herd.

tcritic blog spotlight msp GearCrave Blog Spotlight: 8 Questions with Tcritic.com

1. What is tcritic.com?

Tcritic is an almost daily blog about t-shirts that attempts to cover unique, high quality and clever t-shirt design. If there is an artisan behind the shirt, if it’s special in some way, if it’s done in small batches I like to write about it, you will rarely find mass market t-shirts although of course there are obviously exceptions to that rule.
