solarbulb msp1 Miniwiz Shows Off Cute Solar Solutions

We know what you’re thinking: Isn’t a sunlight-powered light a little redundant? But with six hours of juice after four hours of charge, you could easily take Miniwiz’s Solar Bulb into darker locales once it’s fully powered. The bulb, a a 0.07 W high output LED with magnifying lens, comes in a Big Mac-esque package. It’ll screw onto any standard water bottle or Miniwiz’s own POLLI-brick interlockable bottles, making for a convenient handle. Also from Miniwiz, the miniNOTE solar card and battery transfers its stored power to PDAs, iPods and other portable devices via USB. “From” and “To” notes on the cardboard packaging suggest a fun gift for your green-obsessed pals. sewing Brothers high tech Quattro 6000D sewing machine

Think your grandma is ready to go high tech? Brother’s new Quattro 6000D is enough to put even the greatest sewing machine on the block to shame (perhaps because it’s the size of a block). The sewing monster offers a 50-inch workspace and Brother’s “InnovEye” and “Use-Close Viewer” which places a camera next to the needle for a “bird-eye view” of your masterpiece. The machine comes with a 4.5 x 7-inch LCD and advanced embroidery features and tutorials. No word yet on when we can see this one hit store shelves, or what price you’ll have to pay for sewing perfection. [via Engadget]

black and decker thermal leak detector Pinpoint cold air leaks with the Black and Decker Thermal Leak Detector

It’s winter and there’s a chill in the air- but hopefully not in your home. If you can’t quite pinpoint that draft in your living room, the Black and Decker’s Thermal Leak Detector may be the gadget for you. The heat detector picks up where our wind sensing abilities start to fail by determining where temperature changes in the room are located, pinpointing them with a blue spotlight. Where you may have known before that the cold air was coming for “that side of the room”, now you can pin-point the source down to “that corner of the window” and take care of the leak.  Start busting cold air in your home now for just $40. philippe starck gun lamps in silver msp1 The Philippe Starck Gun Lamps in Silver

Earlier this summer, we covered the original Philippe Starck Gun Lamp in gold to quite a dramatic response from our readers and the blogosphere alike.  Recently, we spotted an update to the gun lamp collection on panik-design.  The newer silver versions of the Philippe Starck Gun Lamp collection include the beretta bedside lamp, the AK47 table lamp and the M16 floor lamp.  Intruders will think twice before cracking their way into your home.  Nothing says “i like guns” quite like a collection of lamps inspired by violence.  Then again, those would-be intruders would be wise to grab these… they’re not cheap! In this sense, garbage can be a beautiful thing.  These Umbra Artala Cans are 3 gallon garbage cans with graffiti-inspired exteriors.  Available in red, blue and green themes, the Artala cans take designs from today’s most gifted graphic designers and place them on the outside of the most commonly used file in any creative thinker’s artillery– the circular file.  Before you delete, take a look at the face of these cans for inspiration.  They bring beauty to a part of our life that has become far too wasteful…

Allsteel Office Systems have been known to make some pretty tasteful office gear, from desks to chairs to cubicles.  Their latest foray into high end office charis brings the Allsteel Acuity Chair, a sexy Aeron-killer designed by Design Continuum Italia.  The pictures alone speak quite eloquently about its value, appearing like the next gen chair for Professor X and his band of mutants.  It is the comfort design of this chair that seperates it from the rest, making it firm in frame and soft in seat– the ideal combination for a productive day.  More to come on this chair later this month while we await its release to the market.

the recond cabinet msp3 The Record Cabinet by Atocha Design

“Why didn’t anyone think of that sooner?”  The Record Cabinet by the Atocha Design team in NY is a welcome piece of furniture technology for audiophiles, DJs and record collectors alike.  Instead of rows of crates, over-sized cabinets and other less-than-aesthetically-pleasing DJ tables, Atocha Design suggests that you merge all your record gear in one sexy, modern cabinet.  The Record Cabinet includes six record drawers, four CD drawers and a firm top capable of holding your turntable(s), a mixer and an amp.  It might be out of reach for your typical basement DJ, but seasoned audiophiles and DJ’s on the pro-circuit will find this one a must-add to their collection.
