Adidas Skateboarding Mark Gonzales x Adidas Doley

Mark Gonzales is one of the oldest and grandest of O.G.s of skateboarding. If Tony Hawk is King of the Birds and Christian Hosoi is the legendary Golden Child, Gonzales is the magical unicorn. Known chiefly as the godfather of street skating (essentially inventing the ollie and the grind), his energy and creativity proved too boundless to be confined by the just skateboarding, bleeding over into painting, poetry, sculpture, filmmaking, and even quilting. His work has been featured in galleries on both coasts, and he’s done a myriad of collaborative projects, including a recent NY show with Hosoi.

This week Adidas Skateboarding released a sneaker collabo featuring the Adidas Doley, newly released this summer. While the original is all-white, this special edition comes in a creamy off-white with black trim and features original artwork by Gonzales, along with his name scrolled along the heel. Pricing is, as of yet, available, but word is that the folks at SlamJam will have them available for purchase quite soon.

Timex Black Collection 2008

Digital is officially back in the building. This time it’s less for reasons of irony and more for a new appreciation of the technological innovation and genuinely cool design aesthetic that the watch styles represent. In the wake of the Casio G-Shock’s extravagant 25th Anniversary, Timex decided to get in on the subsequent buzz, re-releasing some of their digital classics in new colorways. Just in is the Timex Black Collection; it features black on black (my favorite) and black/gold versions. Both are available now at French boutique Colette’s Eshop. Fourth grade seems far away, but INDIGLO is still, like, the coolest thing ever.

Rocksmith Tees, Summer ‘08

RockSmith is a funky, pop-culture division of streetwear collective Kilo International which also produces a line under the name Kilo Goods. On the scene since 2006, the label had always boasted fresh colors and admirably street-savvy designs but really never captured my attention until now. For their Summer ‘08 Collection of tees, RockSmith went back to that oh-so-reliable well of streetwear inspiration and mined ’80s and ’90s hip-hop and black pop culture. The graphics and colors are all seriously on-point, and the references–everything from Juice to Getto Boys to Kid ‘n’ Play to Arsenio Hall to Guns ‘n’ Roses–both cleverly nostalgic and impeccably cool. Oh, and don’t forget the Warhol Obama tee. See more Rocksmith below…

Pandigital (LCD) Kitchen Technology Center

I love to cook. I don’t have a lot of cookbooks because a) they’re not that cheap b) the internet’s so much easier. It brings me to an impasse of sorts when I need the recipe at arm’s length in the kitchen. I’m not gonna spend the paper to print it out, and bringing the laptop to the counter seems destined to end in tomato-splattered disaster. The new Pandigital LCD Kitchen Technology Center is the perfect solution to this, the nerdiest of culinary conundrums. Pandigital has until now made their mark making uploadable digital LCD picture frames. Now, they’ve taken that technology, paired it with HDTV and made the KTC an all-in-one TV/Media Player/Digital Cookbook for the .

Unveiled at the International Home and Housewares Show in March of this year, the KTC comes with several recipes pre-programmed to the unit itself and a 1GB memory card to which you upload many, many more. The 15-inch LCD has a 1280 x 720 resolution, with HD capacity and is sealed in a glass casing for protection from water, grease, flour and other kitchen-y substances. It also comes with interchangeable black, white, and chrome faceplates, for the decor-conscious. The memory system is a 6-in-1 media reader that supports SD, XD, Memory Stick, Compact Flash, and MultiMediaCard. It also supports playback JPEG, Motion JPEG, MPEG 1, MPEG 4, and AVI. The official release hasn’t been announced yet, but, by all accounts, it should be available in early July. Keep a look out. You gotta break that stove in some time.

Fixed Magazine

fixed mag

Gears are for pussies.  While you’re shifting up three gears from standing start to top speed, I’m already 50 feet ahead of you.  One turn of the crank on my bike, and you’re in my dust.  Why?  I’ve only got one speed– fast.  This Fixed Fenomenon is growing by every turn of that single-speed crank.  It is cycling at its purest, it is performance at its best, and counter car culture at its most defiant.  If you want to ride, you absolutely must try it fixed.

Fixed is a new magazine, launched just this past week, for fixed-gear enthusiasts by fixed-gear enthusiasts and serves as both an insider’s playground and an outsider’s peek into the culture from a global perspective. The magazine will be available at select stores, but you can download the first issue free of charge here.

Wednesday StyleCrave: The Khaki Suit, A Summer No-Brainer

bryan ferry Wednesday StyleCrave: The Khaki Suit, A Summer No Brainer

Quick question: when’ s the last time you more-than-browsed a men’s fashion publication? If you haven’t done so in the last 3 months, first off, you’re seriously in danger of having your Gearcraver card revoked and need to re-prioritize your life. Second, it means you’ve slept through what is, at the moment, the most unanimously-agreed-upon, undeniable, inescapable truth in menswear: you absolutely must own a khaki suit this season. Why? Because everyone says so, that’s why– and because it’s the only logical suit choice for the summer months that doesn’t involve seersucker, Miami Vice, or excessive sweating. Plus, it’s not as unconventional as you think. To be fair, any cotton suit is a great choice for summer-time business wear and formal attire. But, there’s something so nonchalant, so casually sophisticated and slightly rogue-ish (exhibit: A, above–courtesy of Mr. Bryan Ferry) about a khaki suit that it puts it in a style category all its own.

Picking The Right Sneakers: Ten Pairs That Look Good On Everyone

Finding the right pair of casual sneakers is a tricky but imperative task. For guys, there are, of course, tons of options to choose from and a myriad of different stylistic influences tugging at us from all directions. Sneakerhead culture– with its collector’s mentality, kaleidoscopic approach, and limited-edition snobbery– has had a dual effect on the male sneaker shopper. Some have tried to embrace the moment whole-heartedly, taking full advantage of the new availability of old school styles and the newfound acceptability of increasingly brighter colors.

Hyden Yoo Summer Cardigan

Tuesday, June 24, 2008 9:00AM - By GrahamCumberbatch

Hyden Yoo started his clothing line back in 2004 after winning $50,000 as the winner of Fear Factor. His original goal was to make a line of shirts that were sharp enough for the office but didn’t look like over-sized night shirts when untucked at happy hour. His fitted, short-hemmed dress shirts hit their mark, and he was able to launch his first full collection this year for the Fall/Winter season. The line is a perfect cross-section of his two intended audiences–Brooklyn hipsters and young corporate types.

A great example is the summer cardigan. Cardigans aren’t exactly the first thing 90-degree weather brings to mind. But, be it an office or a movie theater, this lightweight sweater–100% ultra-light wool with a cotton jersey lining–is just right for the overly air-conditioned indoors. On the style front, Yoo’s clothes are all about the details–in this case, shiny, military-style silver buttons. If you’re still not convinced just remember that Yoo sucked glassful of milk straight from a goat’s teat to bring you his clothes. The least you could do is buy a cardigan.
