asusezlink Asus shows off energy efficient monitors

ASUS is showing off a new lineup of energy-efficient LCD monitors. The VH192C and VH196 both use low-levels of mercury and only two lamps to operate, allowing them to use over 20% less power than other comparable monitors. Both screens have optical film applied to them so they can maintain high brightness levels, and the VH192C has a color shine glare-type panel that improves image clarity and color density. No word on when we’ll see these babies hit the street or what sorts of price points they’ll be at. [via Electronista]

If you’ve been dreaming about Panasonic’s ultra-thin Z1 plasma screen, then dream no more. The television has finally gotten a price and a release date. The 1-inch screen will be available in June for an MSRP of $6000. The 54-inch screen has a 40,000:1 static and 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and has a SD card slot so you can play back your pictures on the television by just putting in your memory card. The TV also has Panasonic’s VIERA cast function that allows you to stream things directly to the television such as Amazon’s video-on-demand service. Plasma has been to some extent a dying technology. Would you consider buying this one at the $6k price tag? [via CrunchGear]

dell latitude xt2 tablet pc Dells Latitude XT2: on Sale for $2,459?

The Dell Latitude XT2 is now on sale through Amazon. The $2,459 computer has a swivel screen that allows you to turn into a tablet rather than a traditional laptop with just a few twists and turns of the screen.  Besides the pretty badass touchscreen screen the computer actually has some pretty decent specs otherwise. The 12.1-inch XT2 has a 120GB 5,400rpm hard drive, Bluetooth, and an ExpressCard slot. The version available on Amazon also has a DVDF burner E-Module, which allows you to install software on the device and burn CDs and DVDs. The screen alone makes this one worth the price to us. thanko 1 Thankos new pen reads 4 SD cards simultaneously

Thanko has released a new four-slot USB SD card reader. While we can’t think of a time where you would actually need to read four different SD cards at the same time, it’s still an interesting concept. The SD$PEN can read four SD or SDHC cards (up to 16GB) as well as let you write out all your thoughts and dreams, or your grocery list for that matter. No word yet on pricing or a release dates for this one, but we’re sure it’s going to happen soon. Who could live without one of these? [via Akibahara]

Initially revealed in January, Asus has announced that their Eee PC keyboard will begin shipping in May or June of this year. For those who missed the CES announcement, the netbook-like device is actually a keyboard with a computer attached rather than the other way around. Asus is working on two versions of the keyboard PC, one wired and one wireless. The wired version will more than likely set you back $400 while the wireless version will come in around $600. Both keyboard PCs are expected to have 1.6 GHz Atom processors, 1GB of RAM and a 16GB or 32GB SSD hard drive. The computer portion of the device will be a 5-inch touchscreen that can be connected to your television through USB, VGA, or HDMI. Expect both versions to drop in May or June of this year. vue main Monitor your office or home with wireless Vue cameras

Want to check out what everyone in the office is up to through a single computer? The Vue multi-camera wireless video system is designed to do just that. Cameras can be placed wherever you want them to go and them all feed a signal back to your router. The cameras are only on when you’re watching them, so it won’t be good for monitoring people of things after hours (unless you want to watch them constantly), it can be a neat idea for keeping track of what’s going on in another room, or watching the kids while you’re away. Once you’re watching a video you can also share it on Facebook or Flickr, so it could be an interesting way to share things as well.

A basic Vue kit will run you $299, which includes the base station and two cameras. If you need to bring in more camera action, each additional camera is $99. [via Engadget]
