click-track

It’s no secret to anyone here that a lot of popular music today is a bit contrived and over-produced. And now there’s an interesting way to prove it. Coder and music technology guru Paul Lemere developed a simple program that measures the tempo variations in tracks to see which drummers are using a click track for that steady, easy-to-mix tempo and which ones are just jamming. Songs that flatlined included Nickelback (shocker), Britney Spears (not dropping any jaws there) and Breaking Benjamin (I never!). Ringo Starr, John Bonham and Lars, on the other hand, were au naturale. [Music Machinery via Boing Boing]
