Don’t Count Out Global Warming, Ars Says

There’s a whole lot of number crunching going on at Ars Te chnica, where John Timmer warns that a cold 2008 doesn’t mean the end of global warming. While some have said the recent chilliness marks a decade-long trend of dropping temperatures, Timmer notes that 1998 was an exceptionally warm year, thanks to the ever-fluctuating temperament of La NiƱa. As the graph above shows, compare 2008 with any other surrounding year and you’ll see that the earth’s temperature is still rising. As for trends in the long term, we still seem to be on a major upswing that began in the 1960s. Timmer, you make my inner Al Gore so proud. [Ars Technica]
