Canadian government considers open-source software

The Canadian government is looking at open source software as a way to shave off some of it’s operating costs. The government has issued a Request For Information (RFI) on open source software opportunities, and is seeking advice and feedback from the public on using those options in it’s day-to-day operations. In the RFI the government asks for “No charge licensed software” for their operating systems, office suites, as well as automation systems. Canada has faired the economic downturn better than many countries, but switching to open source software would decrease the country’s dependence on the US for software needs, and could save Canada tons of cash long term. What open source suggestions would you make for Canada? [via ArsTechnica]
