Proposed Bill Disrupts Cell Phone Stalkers With Noise
By Jared Newman
Just because there’s an economic crisis going on doesn’t mean we don’t have time for a bit of odd legislation. The “Camera Phone Predator Alert Act,” proposed by U.S. Rep. Peter King, would require all new cell phones sold in America to emit a distinct noise when snapping a photo. The sound would be permanently enabled and audible within “a reasonable radius,” according to the language of the bill. Of course, this doesn’t factor in video, the number of camera phones out there already or a potential cottage industry of noise removal jobs, but crazy cell phone predators aren’t wise enough to figure out those workarounds.
