Sony Notebook is Small, Light, Not a Netbook

Sony is calling the VAIO Lifestyle PC the “world’s lightest 8-inch notebook,” which could be a genuine superlative but sounds like one of those carefully-worded baseball statistics. Joking aside, the Lifestyle weighs 1.4 pounds and could theoretically fit in your coat pocket. Aside from the 1,600×768 pixel display, features include a 3G modem, 802.11N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and four to eight hours of battery life, depending on the capacity you choose. Most impressive, however, is the ability to call up a Web browser, listen to music and view photos and videos without fully booting up. As for why this isn’t technically a netbook, Sony says the 3G connectivity means an Internet connection isn’t necessary to access the web. Now, that’s just semantics. [via Wired]
