The Space Shuttle Carried on the Back of a 747
Dec 18, 2008 - By Alex Ion
NASA’s Space Shuttle is one of the most amazing flying objects that humans have ever built. It usually launches from the back of a rust-colored external tank, but when its flights are within our own atmosphere, it flies on the back of a modified 747. What looks like an impossible take off – the shuttle weighs 175,000 pounds, costs NASA a total of $1.8 million and has proven to be a success. Check out the 747 transporting the shuttle over the Mojave Desert. It’s stunning! We want a window seat if possible… [via Gizmodo]
