Samsung’s 256GB SSDs Now Producing

A few days ago, Samsung announced that they’ve begun mass producing high-speed 256GB solid state drives (SSDs) for notebooks and PCs. Combining sequential read rates of 220MBps and sequential write rates of 200MBps, this isn’t just another 2.5-inch SSD on the market– its actually the fastest. This little beast is twice as fast as any other SSD of its size (Toshiba and Micron) and 10 times faster than any 7200 rpm laptop hard drive we’ve seen. Too bad we don’t have a price yet, but considering that a 128GB SSD adds $500 to the total cost of your laptop, we can only imagine how exorbitantly expensive is going to sell for… [via Dvice]
