What is LiquorSnob?
LiquorSnob is a product-oriented blog for the drinker on the go. We try to cover all facets of the industry, including news and trends, but our sweet spot seems to be uncovering new spirits and products that folks might not have heard of. We’re big fans of the little guy, the mom and pop distiller or distributor who passionately believes in a product and doesn’t necessarily have a means to let people know about it. We like the underdog, and firmly believe that just because a spirit has a national marketing campaign, it doesn’t mean it’s the best thing going.
Why should people read LiquorSnob?
We aim LiquorSnob at the adventurous drinker, the person who’s not content to just go to a bar and order the same old same old. Curious about what corn whiskey tastes like? Wondering about which new absinthe you should try before spending sixty bucks on a bottle? Looking for something edgy, like a caffeinated vodka or coca leaf liqueur? We’re your huckleberries, because we’ve reviewed them all.
Plus, our reviews go beyond telling you what something tastes and smells like, but what it reminds us of, and how we suggest you mix or order it. We’re also all about value – we’re not afraid to tell you to get the $20 bottle of Herradura tequila instead of blowing $50 on Patron, or that you’re an idiot for ordering a Grey Goose and Coke (why pay extra for a top shelf label and then douse it in corn syrup?).
We’re also all about finding fun trinkets and gadgets – we’ve discovered and reviewed all kinds of cool items, including crazy beer bongs (the BongXedo and the Flabongo come to mind), bottle openers, etc.
When did LiquorSnob launch?
We’ve been around since the summer of 2005, and we’ve put the mileage on our livers to show it.
What is your favorite part about running LiquorSnob?
We’ve got to say the free hooch, right? We seem to get at least a bottle or two for review each week, or if not liquor then some kind of beer-blasting or pong-playing gadget. One of our favorite things in the world is the envious look on people’s faces when we tell them what we do – it’s one part “those lucky bastards†and one part “why didn’t I think of that?â€
Another great part is the sense of camaraderie – we’ve made friends with a number of booze bloggers, and there’s no sense of competition there. We try to help each other out instead of “getting the scoop†on each other, which benefits all our readers.
What are your favorite websites and why?
There are a bunch of sites that we read pretty often, but there are a few that live on our iGoogle page…they’re great resources for story ideas, and we’ve become friends with a lot of these folks. Martini Groove, Jeffrey Morgenthaler, The Scotch Blog, Intoxicated Zodiac are among the favorites.
There are also a bunch of great sites in the Blogpire, which is the network we’re in – we have some overlap with Cheap Fun Wines, but we read others like Single Serve Coffee, Kitchen Contraptions, and Really Natural on the regular too.
What gadgets/technology can you not live without?
Well, we couldn’t get anywhere without our GPS – seriously, we’re a bunch of chimps when it comes to directions. We also love our Macbooks and the office iPod Touch – we recently drank the Apple Kool-Aid after years of being haters, and we haven’t looked back.
If you could have and endless supply of any one kind of liquor, wine or beer, what would it be and why?
Oh, man…tough question. If it’s an endless supply, we’d love some nice, high end whiskey, like a bourbon or rye. We love it on the rocks, the Old Fashioned is our favorite drink in the world, and we do enjoy a good
boilermaker every once in a while. Of course, if you backed up a PBR truck to our front door, we probably wouldn’t turn that away either…
