UPDATE – Hold off on this one, GearCravers… a few GearCrave readers have pointed out news that MyGallons.com lost its contract to provide its gas cards from US Bank. In other words, if you pay ‘em, you’re not getting what you paid for… yet. We’ll keep you up to date. Its unfortunate, because this really is a cool concept.
You know the proverbial shit has hit the fan when entrepreneurs begin selling gasoline futures to consumers on a micro level. To the economically uninitiated, allow us to translate: this company is allowing you to buy tomorrow’s gasoline at today’s price. When gas hits $5.00 this fall (and trust us, it will), you’ll have already purchased that gas at $4.00 today, even though its not in your tank yet. MyGallons.com provides its members with a pre-paid gas card where members can buy gas at a set price and pay for it in the future at that same price. Let’s use an example– say gasoline drops to $3.50 per gallon. I deposit $500 into my MyGallons account for X number of gallons of gas at $3.50 per gallon. In six months, when gas is $5.50 per gallon, I’m still paying $3.50/gallon out of that deposit… Point being, MyGallons saves you money on gas, big money considering how steep oil prices are expected to climb… Learn more at MyGallons.com.
