What is TheBachelorGuy?

A website. (How often do you get that wiseass answer from guys thinking they’re funny? Really? Just me?)

TheBachleorGuy.com is a blog that has become the go-to resource for everyday guys who want to improve their lifestyle – and elevate themselves above Neanderthal status – with access to the latest info on gear, gadgets, grooming, style, food, drink, cars and anything else that’ll distinguish them from the rest of the herd.

Why should people read TheBachelorGuy?

Because otherwise I’m sitting here chained to my desk 14 hours a day, or flying around the country to different events and partying and turning my liver into a sponge, for nothing. And there’s a great mix of info on whatever interests guys. Not only the gear and gadgets coming out, but original articles on culture, news, sex and other stuff guys want to know to keep them interesting at parties.

And the site isn’t just for single guys. Being a “Bachelor Guy” is a state of mind. A lifestyle where a guy wants to be able to take care of himself, have the best and latest, and live the good life, whether or not there’s a woman in the picture. There are a lot of married guys, and even women, who read the site regularly.

How did TheBachelorGuy.com begin?

It actually started as a result of my own friends. And my inability to stay in one place very long. I’ve had a number of wide and varied careers, everything from running restaurants to being a personal trainer and martial arts instructor, radio host and handyman, to product developer and marketing exec. And most recently a writer. So my buddies would always come to me with questions. About the latest gear and gadgets. Which flat screen to buy. What I thought about different cars. I was the go-to guy for info. One night a bunch of the guys came to my place to watch the UFC with the usual bunch of six-packs and as an extra I mixed a drink I learned to make at Spago in Vegas. It’s their signature drink, and I figured it’d be a good alternative to the beer. The guys loved it and asked me to show them how to make it so they could do it at home for their girls. I figured my buddies were like a lot of guys: they’d never read GQ or Esquire, but they weren’t complete chuckleheads either. They wanted knowledge that would help them to impress chicks, but didn’t know where to look. Or feel like an idiot asking questions or admitting they didn’t know something guys are expected to know. And BG was born.

When did TheBachelorGuy start?

About three years ago I was writing for Hooters Magazine and, after the UFC thing with Spago’s drink, I pitched a regular column to my editor that would become The Bachelor Guy. It became really popular and about a year and a half ago I launched it online. It still appears in every issue of Hooters, too.

What do you enjoy most about your site?

The feedback I get from readers about how they found the perfect thing, drink, recipe, trip, etc. on my site. I like that goofy crap I find and write about is valuable to a lot of people. Oh, and the chicks. Chicks dig bloggers.

What advice would you have for would be bloggers?

Know your subject inside and out. And know what you’re getting into. People don’t realize what it takes to feed the content monster. It’s a constant grind pumping out all those posts every day. You gotta love it or you’ll burn out quickly.

What are your favorite websites and why?

I like different sites for different reasons. I’m a media junkie, so I’m on IMDb.com looking something up at least 4 or 5 times a day. And I check MSN and Yahoo every morning to see what trouble the world has brewing for the day. Digg is a must to see what stories people are digging that day. And for general shits and grins I’ll hit the other sites in my category to see what the other guys I know are posting. Sites like AfroJacks, Double Viking, Complex, WWTDD. And if I have absolutely nothing better to do, and cable’s out, I’ll check GearCrave. Since I can’t get away from people sending me video links, I’m on Break and YouTube a lot. FoodTV.com is another favorite. I’m always looking for something new to cook.

What gadgets can you not live without?

My Mac Powerbook is my life, since I travel a lot and have to work from wherever I can find a flat surface. I also have an Oakley designed laptop bag I love, that let’s me pack a ton of stuff into a space that fits comfortably under an airplane seat. And there’s my MicroMemo from Xtreme Mac that snaps onto the bottom of my iPod and turns it into a recorder. A must when interviewing. Especially when interviewing over drinks and using a pen has been rendered impossible.

And most importantly is the new ChargePod I just got. It has 6 ports that take interchangeable power adapters so I can charge all my crap in one outlet. Or the car.
