20 years ago, you could have had an excuse if you forgot about one of her special days. But in the digital age, where computers, smart phones and internet tools are all the rage, you really have no excuse for missing a date. There are plenty of free calendar tools for your computer that are available for download. It is likely that your PC comes loaded with a Microsoft Office Outlook calendar, and your Mac comes with iCal. Regardless, google has a free calendar that comes standard with any free google account that we love here at GearCrave. Sign up, make a note of special dates, even have google’s calendar send you a text message to your phone at a set time before your special event. The point is, there is a world of free technology that will help you remember these dates.

By now, you should have casually found a way to discover her favorite flower. If you weren’t paying attention to the hints– shame on you. However, this is where all that secret agent training can really pay off. Take her to a supermarket or a hardware/garden store and purposefully stop by the flower section and (pretend to) look interested. Suggest a day date to a local conservatory. Just be careful to call her Mom or her friend, as they might just wind up spoiling the surprise…

1-800-Flowers, ProFlowers and others have been a godsend for many a guy, but check around your local shops and compare pricing, quality and availability. When you’re throwing down money on flowers, you want a source you can depend on. If you’re one of the lucky guys that scores a gal that likes a cheap flower (lillies, or if you’re real lucky, dandelions – free for the pickin’!), we tip our hats you. But count on expensive flowers being the apple of her eye: roses and orchids come to mind. The phone book (or phone book website) is a great place to start your search, but don’t end there – go in to potential stores and look around and ask the employees about year-round availability of her faves.

Flowers don’t have to just be on special occasions. How about a random Tuesday? Or sending her some at work? Not only will this will help you score big with her, but it will put you in good standing with her friends and mother (this is vitally important for your success, in case you didn’t know). Is it worth the extra expensive every now and then? Simply put: Yes. They will make her happy and she’ll want to show you that you’ve done good (catch my drift?).

Remember, flowers ain’t everything. Sometimes they’re just not enough by themselves. Chocolates, cards and stuffed animals are great accompaniments for those extra special times (or those times when you’re really in the doghouse). A nice dinner is an even better accompaniment. Make sure you go where she wants to go (regardless of your feelings about the place) or the whole deal is off. If you’re really in a pickle, jewelry may be your only way out. Let’s just hope it doesn’t come down to that.

In short, the highest level of importance should be placed on your flower-buying abilities. If you can successfully score flowers she loves at the drop of a hat, you’re a keeper. Flowers will help you get through the bad times and they’ll make the good times better. So follow our lead, you GearCraver, and don’t be afraid to explore your new flowery world. Be a man about it!
