The Wassily Chair

wassily The Wassily Chair

In 1926, Marcel Breuer designed the first bent-chrome chair the world had seen– the Wassily chair. This bent metal and thick leather masterpiece was admired by Breuer’s Bauhaus colleague, painter Wassily Kandinsky. After Breuer delivered a few of these for Kandinsky himself, the chair became popularly known as the Wassily chair. Looking at this chair, it may be hard to believe that this design was created in the 1920s. Its ultra-modern appeal has held strong to this day, gracing museum floors and high end bachelor pads alike. Your humble GearCrave editor has two of these in his living room. I still cannot walk past these chairs without taking a moment to stop and admire them… Neither can my guests!
